Piano Exercises

Get faster, get stronger!

Just as football players have to lift weights to strengthen their upper bodies, and baseball players have to do sprints to increase their speed, pianists also need to do exercises to play quickly and powerfully.

Strong fingers help you play loudly and confidently. Fast fingers can come from simply practicing quickly, but they also can come from practicing in different keys. This kind of practice helps your fingers anticipate what notes to play in a particular piece.

When you play your exercises, be creative! Sometimes play them softly, sometimes loudly; sometimes play them staccato, sometimes legato. You can even make up different rhythms for them.
